Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI has launched its first AI chatbot, Grok, to compete with ChatGPT and other major generative AI systems. Grok has a “little humor” and can answer “spicy” questions. It leverages real-time data from Musk’s Twitter acquisition and is said to rival AI from Meta, Inflection, and GPT-3. However, it is still behind OpenAI’s powerful GPT-4 model. Grok is available first to some users of Musk’s Twitter and is part of the new Twitter Blue subscription offering, furthering the integration of AI into social media.
According to The Guardian, Grok is an artificial intelligence chatbot with a “rebellious streak” inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It has access to user posts on X, which Musk owns, and has a penchant for sarcastic responses. Grok has real-time access to info via the X platform, which is a massive advantage over other models. It’s also based & loves sarcasm.
Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor. Grok, the fundamental technology behind AI chatbots, has surpassed GPT-3.5, the model used in the freely available version of ChatGPT, on some benchmarks such as solving middle-school maths problems. However, xAI said it lagged behind the most powerful ChatGPT model, GPT-4.
