American Airlines has grounded all of its flights in the US due to unspecified technical issues, disrupting travel at the start of a busy Christmas Eve. The airline is suffering a massive system outage according to multiple travelers on X who are facing delays, which is reportedly preventing boarding passes from being scanned and flights from departing.
A notice posted to the Federal Aviation Administration website says that the airline has grounded all flights nationwide. American Airlines hasn’t provided details on what’s causing the technical issues, or provided an estimated time frame for a resolution.
“We’re currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights,” American Airlines said in a statement on X. “Your safety is our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we’ll have you safely on your way to your destination.”
